CAMBRIAN/BURBANK

My staff attended the Cambrian Community Council meeting on February 3. Residents shared their concerns around the potential increase in traffic around the Harker Middle School proposed expansion.

WEST SAN JOSE

The D4 team and I attended the Shasta Hanchett Park Neighborhood Association’s Annual Meeting on February 1. I gave updates about the work the D4 Office did last year and the work that is ahead of us this year.

On February 8, we joined Korean American Community Services to celebrate the Korean First Full Moon. It was so much fun watching the various cultural performances and the community coming together to celebrate.

My staff attended a Padres Unidos meeting at Del Mar High School on February 12. Parents and caregivers contributed feedback regarding support students need for college and career readiness. The San Jose Police Department’s crime prevention unit also presented information about bullying and how their office can help students avoid conflict.

D4 staff attended the Buena Vista Neighborhood Association on February 18. Residents shared their input about traffic calming efforts in their neighborhood to San Jose’s Department of Transportation.

Billy DeFrank

On February 22, I spoke at the Billy DeFrank's Conversation with Congressman Ro Khanna, giving an update on the work my office and I have done to support our LGBTQ+ community and work planned for the upcoming year.

On February 26, I read to Ms. Peters’ second grade class at Easterbrook Discovery School. We “Madi’s Fridge,” a book about a girl experiencing food insecurity. The students told me ways we can ensure our family, friends and neighbors can have access to healthy, nutritious food.  I’d like to give a special thank you to the students for teaching me the “Everyone Counts” song for the Census.

Throughout the year, I come out to various outdoor farmers' markets and hold informal conversations with District 4 residents. No appointment is necessary, so you can just stop by and chat. I hope you can join me for my next Food 4 Thought sidewalk office hours on March 21 at the Willow Glen Farmers’ Market.

CAMPBELL

On February 1, I attended the 17th Annual Library Forum held at Santa Clara County Library District. It was great to hear from library staff and volunteers about library use and how the library continues to be a resource for residents.

I attended the Campbell Union High School District State of the District on February 11. The community heard from educators and students about District events, school climate and student clubs making great impact in the school community.

Thank you to the organizers of the Campbell Early Settlers Day celebration for inviting me to speak to the community on February 17. Did you know Campbell Early Settlers Day is the second oldest celebration on California, only behind the Rose Parade?

My next D4 Reads story time will be on March 12 at the Campbell Library. I hope you can join me.

SANTA CLARA

I gave updates about the work the County and my office is doing at the Silicon Valley Central Chamber Winner Circle event on February 4.

Thank you to everyone who came out to my Food 4 Thought sidewalk office hours at the Santa Clara Farmers’ Market on February 15.

On February 20, I presented updates to the Old Quad Residents Association about the work my office did in 2019 and the work that’s ahead of us in 2020.

My first D4 Reads story time for 2020 was at the Central Park Branch Library on February 20. It was such a joy to read “Hair Love” to children and talk with parents, grandparents and caregivers.
