SF CHRONICLE: Santa Clara County supes to consider creating internet provider to bridge digital divide

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is set to consider creating its own internet service provider in response to what some supervisors said is the deep digital divide that leaves under-served residents in the county without access.

County Supervisors Cindy Chavez and Susan Ellenberg are proposing to launch a municipally-owned internet service provider, which would aim to offer “affordable, reliable high speed broadband service” to communities in East San Jose and south Santa Clara County, areas that the supervisors consider to be under-served or entirely unserved.
