D4 Community Connects - Office of Aging and Adult Services

January 14 -

Thank you for joining us for our  27th installment of the D4 Community Connects neighborhood leaders call.  Welcome back and welcome to 2021. Though everything didn’t magically change for the better on January 1, there are many hopeful signs in front of us, from a vaccine to economic recovery. And, from my perspective, it can’t happen fast enough.

Our Department of Aging and Adult Services, a critical service the County offers to our 1.9 million residents.

The mission of the Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) is to promote an Age-friendly community for all residents of Santa Clara County. DAAS strives to ensure a safe and independent lifestyle for older adults, dependent adults, and disabled individuals.

Santa Clara County and all 15 cities have been designated as Age-friendly by the World Health Organization; the first county in the nation to do so. DAAS continually works toward expanding and supporting Age-friendly initiatives throughout the region. DAAS also houses: Adult Protective Services, In-Home Supportive Services, senior nutrition program, and the Public Administrator/Guardian/Conservator.

Here is the presentation that they provided during the call:

Update Portion of the Call:

  • Dashboard Numbers
  • VACCINE: Vaccination numbers also change daily and we expect a dashboard to be posted soon, but as of the Tuesday Board of Supervisors meeting 52,216 doses had been administered by the County health system and partners. Watch here: https://youtu.be/9nr919ZtIas?t=13007
  • SCCFREEVAXThe County’s website at sccfreevax.org is the official source for vaccine-related information in Santa Clara County, and is regularly updated to reflect which community members are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, as well as how those individuals can schedule appointments. It is important to note that some health systems like Kaiser or PAMF may have some variation as they open up slots to new groups of residents as they will proceed through the set phases at different paces. To ensure that they meet eligibility criteria for vaccination, every person will be asked to provide verification of their status upon arrival to a vaccination site for their appointment. County officials continue to urge adherence to all social distancing and mask protocols as the vaccines are rolled out to more and more individuals.
  • VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Second Harvest of Silicon Valley has remained open and fully operational during the pandemic to ensure everyone in our community has access to nutritious food. Since last March, the need has DOUBLED (they are currently providing food for 500,000 people each month) and requires a critical amount of volunteer support. They are actively seeking volunteers on an ongoing basis. Click here for volunteer opportunities: https://info.shfb.org/e/873931/paign-voloutreach-reg-20201204/3q4s4/76582899?h=AHDCQY389gb6gu449oE_ZpX8M9eoMM3r5LzYbRq1kk4
