Picnic in the Park

On October 29, 2022 my team welcomed over 350 visitors to Orchard City Green in Campbell to enjoy some family-friendly fall fun at our first Picnic in the Park. We had a kids reptile show from For Goodness Snakes, a performance by local singer/songwriter Casey Bogdan, a drag queen story time from Miss Karen, free family fall photos from professional photographer Luis Castillo, a DJ, and more. It was great to see the community come out, get professional photos, learn about sustainable food and gardening, listen to some live music, and get flu shots.

Thank you to our day-of partners: Valley Medical Center, Office of Women's Policy, Santa Clara County Fire Department, Office of LGBTQ Affairs, Santa Clara County EMS, Santa Clara County Library District, Valley Verde, Don Bugito, Community Cycles of California, Valley Health Plan, Santa Clara County Department of Aging and Adult Services, Stanford Healthcare, Good Karma Bikes, Santa Clara County Parks Department, CADRE, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

If you're interested in partnering with us/having a presence at our next Picnic in the Park, email us at [email protected] with Picnic in the Park 2023 in the subject line.

D4 READS

#D4Reads program

One of the greatest gifts adults can give to their offspring and to their society is to read to children. - Carl Sagan

Early literacy is so important, which is why my office created the #D4Reads program. Every month, I visit a different library throughout District 4 to read to our youngest D4 residents during a special Storytime with Supervisor Ellenberg.

* DUE TO THE 2020 PANDEMIC, ALL PRESCHEDUED LIBRARY READINGS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. *

D4 ARTS FOR ALL

I believe that including arts education in a child’s learning experience is vital and the efforts taken by our local school districts should not only be applauded but celebrated. With this in mind, my office has created the D4 Arts for All Rotating Quarterly Gallery, in partnership with our local school districts, beginning the summer of 2019.

Thank you to the students of Hoover Middle School for submitting art to my D4 Arts For All rotating gallery. Their art was installed in my County office from September through November 2019. They shared black and white interpretations of what’s in their backpacks. Each student artist received a commendation from my office recognizing their creativity and participation in art education followed by a reception for them.

The third installment of art in my office is from a variety of Luther Burbank students. Their cutout hands colored in chalk are available for viewing from December 2019 through February 2020. I look forward to meeting the student artists. You can expect the fourth installment to go up in March and continue through May 2020, courtesy Campbell Union School District students.

And, in case you missed it, our first installation was from the Moreland School District (see photo above). Thank you to all the students who contributed to the D4 Arts For All rotating gallery. Your art is beautiful. Be sure to view past installations here.

The D4 Arts for All rotating quarterly gallery showcases artwork created by students enrolled at District 4 schools. Each participating school district curates student artwork that is showcased at the District 4 Office at 70 W Hedding St. for three months, culminating in a presentation of certificates to the young artists. If you’d like to participate in the D4 Arts For All gallery, send an email to [email protected]
